Found in France.
c. 1930
The scrolled handles, floral motifs, and paw feet are classic motifs of the Second Empire, which saw a revival of Neoclassical design. This jardinière would have originally been used for flower arrangements, and still contains two of its three original cork stoppers. It is hollow in its interior and has a zinc liner to protect the silverplate from moisture.
I took a gamble on this piece as I found it in a dusty shop in rural France completely covered in tarnish, which appears to have been to my benefit as it was wonderfully preserved and shined up more beautifully than I ever expected it to. A special piece to be enjoyed for many more years, although I would take precaution to use a bit more modern planter shells at the base of your arrangements!
Condition Notes
Zinc interior shows moderate signs of age albeit still being functional. It would require a professional to remove the liner (I was not able to when inspecting and cleaning). Sits level.
